Commanding Ax-4 is NASA veteran Peggy Whitson who has experience of four spaceflights. She is leading her second commercial human spaceflight mission, adding to her standing record of longest cumulative time in space by an American. All four will spend two weeks aboard the orbiting lab living and conducting experiments in microgravity.

Axiom Space has assembled the crew in partnership with NASA, ISRO, and the European Space Agency. It includes spaceflight veteran Peggy Whitson from the United States, Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski from Poland, Tibor Kapu from Hungary, and Shubhanshu Shukla himself.

Shubhanshu Shukla is set to become the second Indian to travel into space after Rakesh Sharma’s 1984 mission. Flying aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 as part of the Axiom-4 private astronaut mission, Shukla will journey to the International Space Station (ISS).
