Sporting News on MSNGuardians officially announce call up of exciting pitching prospect
Messick is the Guardians 12th-ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline. The former second-round draft pick from the 2022 MLB Draft, Messick, has spent the last three years in the minor leagues, where he has had a cumulative 3.33 ERA in 354 innings pitched.
The Guardians designated veteran right-handed reliever Carlos Hernández for assignment prior to Wednesday’s series finale against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. In a corresponding move, Cleveland selected the contract of left-hander Parker Messick from Triple-A Columbus.
The two-run shot in the eighth inning against Texas on Tuesday night merely padded the lead for Kansas City, which went on to a 5-2 victory. It was the fifth straight win for the Royals, who closed to within 2 1/2 games of an AL wild-card berth and are within nine games of the first-place Tigers in the AL Central.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. drove in three runs, Jake McCarthy hit a solo homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-5.
Enright and Erik Sabrowski, a couple of resilient rookies, have rescued the group. The Guardians’ bullpen ranks fourth in the league in ERA and is a driving force behind the club’s midsummer resurgence.
Ahead of this season's trade deadline, the Cleveland Guardians' front office made a decision that raised eyebrows across the league: opting to field offers for outfielder Steven Kwan.
