The Atlanta Braved claimed outfielder Jake Fraley off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday and recalled right-hander Dane Dunning from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jake Fraley was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday. The veteran outfielder was designated for assignment by the Reds on Sunday. Manager Terry Francona explained the move on Sunday morning.
The Reds designated Jake Fraley for assignment just after he suffered a knee injury in Saturday's game against the Brewers.
The Brewers didn't so much barge through to beat the Reds in extra innings for their franchise-record 14th consecutive win on Saturday. Because of poor defensive plays and mistakes, Cincinnati essentially opened the door and let Milwaukee take the game.
A change of scenery could benefit him. Fraley is a solid defender with a plus-one outs above average. He made a spectacular play in Cleveland on a diving catch to preserve a complete-game shutout from Andrew Abbott on June 10. Fraley joins an outfield with Jurickson Profar, Michael Harris II, Eli White, and Ronald Acuña Jr.
