NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Attorneys for Kilmar Abrego Garcia asked a federal judge in Tennessee on Friday to delay his release from jail because of “contradictory statements” by President Donald Trump’s administration over whether or not he’ll be deported upon release.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia remains in jail this week as lawyers argue over whether the U.S. Department of Justice can stop him from being deported.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whose mistaken deportation to El Salvador became a flashpoint in President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown, is back in the U.S. and being held in jail as he awaits trial on federal human smuggling charges.
